I think I need a straight jacket… My weekend in review

Short version:

Good news: our house in Vegas is cleaned out

Bad news: We weren’t able to fit it all on our borrowed trailer and have to go back again to get the rest

Good news: we put our house on the market

Bad news: It’s listed for less then we bought it for

Good news: We left Vegas in plenty of time to get home in time

Bad news: it rained and rained and rained and there was construction and it took us about 8 hours to make the 6 hour drive

Good news: at least we have a nice neighbor who saw us carrying stuff into our apartment from the trailer and came out to help us (yay for Eugene!)

Bad news: we have to load a lot of the stuff back onto the trailer tonight to take it to the storage unit.

Good news: Ashley went to school this morning

Bad news: Track starts on FRIDAY not today

Good news: I had that information written on my calendar

Bad news: Apparently I’m losing my mind.

We decided that this would be a good weekend to run back to Las Vegas to pick up the rest of our belongings and meet with the realtor to put our house officially on the market. (Know anyone that wants to buy a house in Las Vegas?) Sad thing is that we’re selling it for less than we bought it for. (waa!)
We loaded up the trailer (thanks Beth!) and we’re impressed with our skills and how fast we were going. About noon we were pretty much done (well- loaded as full as it would go) and I realized that the trailer (in the garage so we could lock it in overnight) was loaded taller then the height of the garage door opening… Luckily the tallest thing (a can rotating shelf) was on the very back of the trailer so we were able to hook the trailer up to the car and drive it very slowly forward while Steve leaned it back on the trailer ramp and we got out- which was good because unloading the trailer and reloading would have killed us.

Unfortunately not everything fit- which means we have to make another trip down there to get the rest of it. Luckily my mom let us take up some of her garage space with our junk so that our house is cleaned out and ready to be shown. We originally had a tarp over the top of everything to help keep it from blowing around too much and help hold things down. About 30 minutes out of Vegas the wind was just too much and the tarp was catching too much wind and blowing the trailer around. So we pulled it off and strapped things down without it. We looked like The Clampetts. To complete the look the wagon was tied on top of the car. I should have taken a picture. But I didn’t, so use your imaginations.

So things were going better since we took off the tarp… until it started to rain. It rained pretty much the entire trip. The going was slow because the wind and the rain was so bad- and then we slowed down to less than 10 mph for about 45 minutes. My favorite part? The 50 feet of construction cones moving traffic down to one lane that caused this incredible back up.

When we got home it had stopped raining too hard- but it was too late to drop anything off at the storage unit because the gate closes at 9pm and we got into town about 10:00. We would have gotten here in plenty of time had it not been for the rain and the traffic… sigh.

So we unloaded everything into our apartment. Our apartment that was finally looking pretty settled and put together. Now I can hardly move because of all the junk in there- and we have to reload it tonight and then unload it again at the storage unit. Our next door neighbor Eugene came home while we were unloading and helped us. I think he’s my favorite neighbor currently.
This morning I sent Ashley to school for the first time here. Got up, she got ready, we walked to the bus stop and she took the bus to school. I got the other girls ready and took them out to the car to drive to school to meet Ashley there and figure out where her class was and stuff. When I got out to the car the driver’s window was down. It had been down all night long. Sigh.. At least nothing was gone- just really really wet since it rained all night long. There was a lot that could have been taken too- my cell phone, steve’s wallet, two cd cases with about 40 DVD’s in them- so yay that nothing was taken.

When we got to school of course I was about 3 minutes too late to catch Ashley as she came off the bus and had to try to find her on the playground. I went to the office to find out where her teacher’s class was and found out that her track doesn’t start today- it starts FRIDAY. Great. Seriously.loosing.my.mind. So I drag the girls out to the playground to try to find Ashley. We get out there and it’s too late- she’s gone. Even better? The door locked behind me so we have to walk all the way around the school to the front to get back in. Carrying Cori, dragging Annika (who is screaming by now because I’m walking too fast) and yelling at Megan to keep up. Ashley called about the time that I got into the school building saying she was in the office. She was pretty disappointed that schoold didn’t start today. I’m pretty disappointed too.

I’m pretty sure I’ve lost my mind. Really.

  1. I’m pretty sure I would’ve lost my mind by now too. I hope your house sells quickly! And the weather this weekend is supposed to be fabulous :)

  2. I think I would’ve lost my mind even sooner.
I hope life gets back to a relevant normalcy soon.

  4. oh man, amber!! that is all crazy!! i’m sorry that you had to list your house for less, i didn’t realize the market had gone down out there. that really, really stinks. even with your backyard improvements? ugh. ugh on all of it. when are you going to let me help, anyway?

  5. That really stinks about your listing price. It’s so not fair! Your week sounds crazy. I hope the next one is nice and sane.
