House Tour part 1 Outside view, Living room and The Hall delima
Okay, as promised a home tour with ‘our stuff’ in the house.
When you drive up to our house this is what you see:

You’ll notice that both cars are in the driveway rather then in the garage. That’s because they don’t fit in the garage yet. I’m hoping to get at least one in there before the snow starts to fall- which apparently could be as early as Saturday (NO!!!)
Also notice the front porch. I want to put a cute little bench or something there. It’s not terribly wide though. I bought a bunch of bulbs to plant this week too in the gardens. I’m hoping to have the gardens be fabulous looking next spring.
As you enter…
This is the front room

I’m still trying to figure out the pot shelf on top. What more if anything does it need?
This is the wall the door and window are on. I need to recover/get recovered that chair.

This is the couch wall. Oh- you couldn’t see the couch? It’s because it’s camouflaged by the paint color. I think I’m going to tackle painting the common areas upstairs this winter.

This is the view from the couch. To the right is the entry into the dining/kitchen area. To the left is either downstairs or back to the bedrooms. The first door is the girls bathroom, the second my bedroom. Annika and cori and Megan’s rooms are around the corner to the left.

This is a cool thing- the front door entry tile? (Sorry- that’s a pretty dark picture)
| From home tour |
Matches the kitchen tile.

Also the carpet and tile go up the wall a bit. It’s not something I would have ever thought of doing- but it’s a nice look.
Here is my question. These are the stairs that go to the basement.

The blue shelf is mine and I’m going to paint it a darker blue. The white shelf is built in and I’m not touching it. How would you decorate this area? I’ve considered doing headshots of the girls and putting them in white oval frames and hanging them- but I’m open to other ideas.
Right now it feels cluttery and junky. I also feel like it needs some height. Help out the decorating challenged!

Looking Good! I am certainly not a decorating professional, but I think that the two shelves together is a liitle too busy- I would take down the blue one and just hang shots of the girls in a straight line then put a medium sized plant on the built in with maybe one or two other small things- Less is more and a little bigger scale of things makes it a lttle less busy. Just my opinion for whatever it is worth!

I feel like I’ve been there…..

I think a tall dried flower arrangement (or silk I guess) would look pretty there on that corner shelf, maybe even something seasonal. Here’s a link to a pretty one just to get the ideas going:

Looks great! Thanks for sharing
It’s looking good. I know how you feel…I never know what to do in my own house, but I can always see things I love or that I would want to try in someone elses. Maybe I just like their stuff better. I would say yeah on all your ideas, especially the one about something tall on the shelves down the stairs, in particular the white shelf. I think something tall there would look marvelous! P.S. It was fun to see you at Women’s Conference. We should all try to get together!

Can’t go wrong with a pic of Christ!! I agree with trying something tall on the corner white shelf to give it some height and then see how the blue shelf looks next to it.

I’m no decorator that’s for sure, but your pot shelf between the couch room and the kitchen needs a few giant tall things. Like a tall pot and giant glass vase. Maybe an old birdcage you found at DI and spray painted to look like a decoration instead of a birdcage.
(I’m so much help, huh!)
Love it! I want one!
So here’s my two cents on decorating the stairway. Something striking on the corner shelf to fill the space visually. I don’t think it should be too tall, or you will pull the spectator’s eyes up instead of down. Maybe a cool vintage vase or something. No blue shelf. And 8×10s or larger of your girls going down the stairs at the same angle–at about head height. And if you coordinate the frames with whatever you have on the shelf that would be Spectacular. Can’t help you on the pot shelf above. I’d have to see it in real life.

Your house is beautiful! For the decor…I’m not good at that either. Big block letters would be fun on either the shelf above the stairs or the plant shelf in the living room. Something tall would also look good there. Good luck!
Oh, your home is beautiful! I wish I had even a smidgen of your decorative sense. I have none. I suppose it is because I grew up in Salvation Army parsonages. We moved every 2-3 years and it always seemed like someone else had decorated, so we didn’t. We took those houses as they came (even the one with the puke green carpets and the green and gold and brown striped wallpaper!).
So glad you have moved in and are feeling at home in your new surroundings. That is a huge blessing. Would love to tell you all about my latest cake fiasco (with my son’s coral snake cake) sometime. Ha!

I agree on no blue shelf on that wall. If you have two shelves on a wall they should go together and be part of the same arrangement. IMO. I also like the idea of some sort of arrangement following the line of the stairs. All of the items in the same size matching frames or something like that.
It’s a beautiful house, Amber! (well, what I’ve seen of it so far) And you KNOW I’m jealous of an actual house. Let alone a nice one, lol.

Wow, gorgeous house! And I am way impressed that you already have stuff on the walls! Stuff that looks good there! We’ve lived in our house five years and are just now hanging things that actually look like the below on the walls.
