First Megan just informed me that she could write her name, then she wrote this:

sdmnmjubvmjugrq

Apparently I’ve been spelling it wrong all along.

SO- anyone that’s known me for any length of time knows that we’ve been struggling with potty trainining Megan for a long time.  Feels like eternity- but she’s only 4- so it can’t have been that long.  First it was constipation.  Got that figured out and the poop mostly in the right place (potty not panties please) and then she was finally dry most of the time. But we’ve had some major setbacks along the way. Seems like every couple of months right as she seemed to finally be ‘getting it’ then we’d have to start all over again.  This week started off well. She woke up dry two mornings in a row- but then started randomly peeing during the day- without seeming to notice that it was happening. Finally at the end of my rope yesterday I wanted to know why (okay- I may have asked her very loudly why) she kept peeing her pants.  She told me that ‘my pee won’t let me be dry and clean’.  It was like a light went off in my head.  Maybe she had a bladder infection.  I asked her if it hurt to pee and she told me yes.  I took her in today. There was blood in her urine.  We’ll get the full culture results back Monday or Tuesday.

We have a family history of bladder problems on my side of the family.  Of my seven sisters 5 of them have had surgery to correct bladder reflux.  I have an aunt who had the same problem and didn’t get the surgery before her kidneys were damaged beyond repair and she ended up needing a transplant.  So we take bladder issues seriously.

The problem is that it’s been my experience regarding this issue that dr’s give the ‘brush off’. It’s frustrating.  But I saw a different pediatrician this time and he took it very seriously.  Said that with our family history and just one confirmed bladder infection it warranted the testing that needed to be done.  So after we’ve cleared up the infection and finished the prescription (10 days, twice a day- I really suck at that) then Megan gets to go in for an ultrasound and a VCUG (pretty much the worst test ever).

Part of me is worried- but another part of me is relieved. Maybe if we fix this issue then we can finally- FINALLY be done potty training.

    Yay for a proactive ped! I hope you get it all figured out.

    It is nice when a pediatrician actually listens to your history.

    As soon as I read what she said it clicked in my head too. I’m glad you’re getting it checked out! The testing is no fun, but it’s better than years of dialysis!

    Glad the light went off… then you can feel like you can get a plan of action to resolve things. How wonderful your ped listened. It is very frustrating when they “brush” you off… You don’t want them to feel like you are smarter than them or can do all your own diagnosing, but we’re not dummies and we spend all our time with our kids so we know when something just isn’t right.

    In the first couple paragraphs, my mind was screaming (I was at work. I couldn’t actually scream.) XRAYS!!! That’s how I was when I was little. Accidents constantly! We have to be careful with our boys too. Your dad had to have it for anyone in the family to have the reflux because it doens’t skip generations. He probably just grew out of it without any problems. That means, Hope had to have it for Emily to, Grandma Pechin had to have it… ect. So, basically, you had to have it… ok… this is getting long and drawn out! I’m so glad your ped believed you!! That’s another thing, I had the same doctor for ten years (first ten years of my life), and he NEVER checked up on my UTI’s. Hince… dialysis, transplant… ect. OK, sorry for the blabbing! I’ll be praying for her!

    Hi,
    I’m running the same theme - Rounded 1.0 - and was having the same problem with it capitalizing all the words in my posts. Annoying! Searching for help, I stumbled across your post at Wordpress.
    I finally figured it out, so here’s how if you’d like to know!
    Go to Presentation
    Go to Theme Editor
    open stylesheet.css
    Scroll down about midway until you see this:
    .post p a:hover{
    background: #4F402A;
    color: White;
    }

    .post p {
    margin: 5px 10px 0 20px;
    text-transform: capitalize;

    Change the “capitalize” to “none” so it reads
    text-transform: none;

    Hit the Update File button, then go refresh your page and see it it works!
    Yay for fixing annoying theme problems. have fun and be blessed.
