There’s always room for Jello…
Remember Annika’s VCUG test? Remember the diagnosis? Today is the big day- her surgery. I’m feeling more then a little nervous and anxious. I’m not a fan of being the food police- but all she can eat until 10:30 is jello, apple juice, sprite and water. After 10:30 nothing until after surgery. She is the ultimate food horder. You’d think we never fed her. But she’s constantly hiding food, sneaking, stashing away in her room. I searched her room for food last night and found half a bag of oreos, 1/4 of a big pack of gum, a quart sized bag of animal crackers, candy from Christmas… I know where to start looking if we get ants this summer. I’m making her follow me around all morning to watch her.
Anyway, she seems to be doing fine so far-especially since I’ve promised her that she can have as many Popsicles and as much ice cream as she wants after we get home . We went to the hospital orientation on Monday night and she seems to ‘get’ as much as I think she’s going to. They went through the hats and masks and gloves the doctors would be wearing, the mask with the ‘air medicine’ in it. She thinks the hospital is a big adventure- which says a lot since that VCUG is no fun. I can’t say enough good things about Primary Children’s Hospital. I always feel a little nervous going in- it seems like such a big place to be and I realize as sick kids go- mine isn’t that sick. I’m grateful for that- but I’m still nervous to send her away to have surgery today.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers today if you will please.
