Annika’s rash
So I took Annika in to the dr. He looked at her throat and considering her other symptoms and the fact that Megan had been diagnosed two days earlier he decided she most likely had strep. So he prescribed Amoxicillin for her (and the other two). The next morning Annika woke up looking like this:
The Nurse (that I called) said it was mostly likely scarlet fever and it’d go away in a couple of days. Well, a couple of days later it was just getting worse. I heard about a chicken pox outbreak in the area and thought maybe it was that. But it didn’t spread to all of her body- just the front of her torso, her arms and hands, groin and knees (but not legs). So I took her back in. The dr. thinks that it was one of two things, either she had/has mono and the Amocillin reacted with it (which is common) but since she was literally bouncing off the walls he wasn’t convinced enough to do the blood test. OR- she’s having a reaction to the meds- but it’s not an ALLERGIC reaction since she didn’t have hives and wasn’t swelling.
So what’s the verdict? What do I do the next time she needs antibiotics? Tell them she’s had a reaction- but not an allergic reaction.
Confused? Me too.

Same thing happens to my neighbor every time, they just keep giving her the antibiotics and something for the itching too. Crazy. Poor Annika.
I think it happened to Lucy last year, she posted an amazing picture of it if I remember correctly.
Why can’t we just be well all the time! Boo!
Hey, Amber. It’s not like the Fifth Disease we had last year, is it?

If it is the antibiotics, you’ll probably have to have it happen again to be sure.
Sariah had this same reaction to Amoxicillan. Sariah’s doctor said it was an allergic reaction. As for antibiotics, Sariah can’t have anything in the “cillan” family, but there are other antibotics available. Just let the doctor know. Reactions to antibotics can get really scary. Sariah’s reaction actually got worse the night after the rash broke out. She went into anafalactic (sp?) shock and had to be rush to the emergency room in an ambulance.
That’s crazy… my dr. thought my bumps were a reaction to my meds… but then, she noticed I had been on all of them more than a year. Maybe I’m having sympathy bumps for Annika. I hope she gets better!
Alexis had Rosiola (sp?) when she was youger and it looked just like that. That is a popular disease and I believe is related to the measles. IT IS NOT the measles, I just remember the doc stating it was the same family. Did she run a really high fever for a day or so and then break it and then the rash showed up? That is consistant with Rosiola. Good Luck let me know what is happening!
I thought Roseola too at first– two of my kids have been through that and it looks just like that and almost exclusively affects the torso. But hey… I would think your doc would have picked up on that. Still, you might ask…?
Anyway, what a pain! Poor baby! Poor Mommy! I hope everyone’s well by now!
