My poor aching head..

I’ve got a headache, a bad one.  I get migraines and take drugs and they usually go away.  This one has been hanging around since Saturday afternoon.  It’s only been intensifying.  I’ve taken every drug I can get my hands on and none of them have helped in the least.  It’s only on the left side of my head/neck/face.  I went to the dr. yesterday hoping for some relief and he gave me a shot of some major pain medication (that I can’t remember the name of).  But all it did was knock me unconscious for the next 12ish hours. I woke up this morning still in major pain.  My mom came over yesterday and took care of the kids and did my dishes and laundry (thanks mom!) and then came over today and took the kids to her house.  I went to the Chiropractor this afternoon and apparently my atlas (top of neck) is severely out of place and so he adjusted that.  It seems to have helped a little.  I’m going back tomorrow for another adjustment. This is unlike any headache I’ve ever had though- generally something from my arsenal works, or at least lessens the pain- also lying down usually makes it worse.  But this time it seems like nothing helps except for laying down- which will make it almost go away completely.

Do you get headaches?

What works for you?

  1. Nothing like that! Poor you!

I’m sick too, so I’ve been on my computer all day. I think it counts like a day in bed. Let’s hope my husband thinks the same thing;)

  2. That sounds terrible! I hope you find some relief soon.

  3. Headaches. Baah! Me?

I have new one in my arsenal called Midrin - what I read online says it has an analagesic, PLUS an ingredient for the vascular aspect, PLUS a sedative for the emotional aspect of tension headaches. It has been helping (mostly).

  4. I’m sorry you’re hurting so much.

  5. My mom usually goes to her chiropractor, but it may take a few adjustments to “stick” Hope it works! Can’t be fun… I don’t get headaches, though as I am aging I get them a bit more often. Feel better soon!

  6. Yuck, Amber. As a fellow migraine sufferer, I can sincerely say that I am SO sorry. But, I have never had one that won’t go away like yours. And after all that sleep….way strange.
I have been to hell and back finding out what causes my migraines. One doctor had me keep a food diary and found that they are caused from cheese! I stay away from eating much cheese, but I have been getting them again lately. Have you ever done a food diary?
So, I am also trying the chiropractor. The chiropractor I have been seeing said he used to suffer from migraines and started getting adjusted and he doesn’t get them anymore. So I am going to try the chiropractor thing. What is there to lose?….and the medicine that works for me is Excedrin Migraine; better than any perscription. I also have this spray that I spray on my head that has kind of a menthol effect and a cold compress bag of something that stays in the freezer.

Good luck. My thoughts are with you.

  7. Can you pinpoint any triggers? For me, they are 99% of the time hormonal. I can almost time them.

I used to be on Midrin, but hate the idea of being on Rx meds, so now I take Excedrin (still can be extremely habit forming/addictive) and I ALWAYS get into a dark quiet room, and grab a bag of frozen peas!

Some headaches (migraines) are caused by dilated blood vessels in the brain. Ice will constrict the vessels back to their normal state and reduce the pain.

Wrap a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel and cradle the part of your head where the pain is concentrated with the peas and your pillow.

  8. Oh I hate headaches I haven’t had one like that yet. I tend to get them when I am preggers. Hope you are feeling better soon!

  9. I’m worried about you because you haven’t been back since my poor aching head post!

  10. Sometimes mine are hormone headaches and NOTHING will work. That could be part of the problem. I feel for you..

  11. Hormones, Sinus issues/allergies, and Dairy products cause mine…. Since I stopped eating dairy, MOST of mine went away. (I discovered that in college.) But the sinus ones still come back. I take a Excedrin Migraine and Sudafed combo. Then, lay down for a while. Hormone headaches, went away with hormone drugs.
