Dear Internet Lovers (but purely in a platonic way)
I feel like a bad boyfriend. I tell you I like you, I take you out, I get to first base or so, and then I don’t call, or write, or post. At least nothing of consequence. NaNoWriMo has sucked my soul out of my blog and put it into my book. The good news is that I’ve rediscovered something that I never really fully developed but that I loved. I’m enjoying myself. I feel like I’m being productive. Hopefully someday I can put up a little amazon linky and you an all go buy my book. Then it’ll be worth it dear internet.
I have been doing other things. Unfortunately blogging well isn’t one of them. I’m at 45,000 words. That means 5,000 more words by Friday at midnight. Totally doable. Even considering I’m helping out a friend with a cake tomorrow, then hosting book club Friday night (which I haven’t read the book for yet) and my house is half decorated. But TOTALLY doable.
So that you won’t question my love I’m going to grace you all with a few pictures from our recent family trip to New Mexico (Albuquerque to be exact- and I learned to spell it) and Thanksgiving. That’s like letting you get to second base. You know, I’m all friendly like that.
First was the drive. Steve (this is him driving) drove the entire way. 12 hours there, 10 1/2 ish hours back, that way I could write the whole way. What a good husband.
Steve wanted to see four corners. It was only about 30 minutes out of our way. So we figured why not?
Until we saw this sign.
It would have been no more then a 10 minute stop. It hardly seemed worth a dollar a minute. Steve had looked for information and hadn’t seen anything about it costing money. He was the one who really wanted to see it and decided that it wasn’t worth $9.00. I didn’t care either way. So we didn’t go. That is my thrifty husband.
This is how the girls spent the drive there:
and
and last but not least:
Notice the scenery out the windows. It looked like that pretty much the entire way, except when it looked like poverty stricken towns. Really quite sad.
There was a cool rock formation thing that seemed to happen- this one was in Ship Rock, and this is the rock it’s named after. This thing was HUGE, the pictures don’t do it justice.
The drive wasn’t really that bad though. But I’ve got good traveling children. Unfortunately the way back Megan puked repeatedly. Thankfully she’s very good at hitting the bucket.
We had some good giggles when we entered Colorado and there was a sign welcoming us to “The Colorful State” and the only colors we saw were beige, light beige and wheat.
That and Hole in the Rock outside of Moab, Utah, which is a tourist trap/gas station- but Hole In The Rock is painted in HUGE letters in white paint- right on the side of the rock. Very conservationist…
Any large get together with my family is a blast. But this one was especially fun, even though I spent several days with some sort of stomach bug and so did three of my kids, which is never fun. Here are a couple pictures that kill me.
My sister Barbara with most the kids. She helped them all make Indian headbands.
Here is Barbara in her knee high moccasins that she bought at a road side stand:
The Feast: **notice the candy corn**
After dinner the candy corn were a weapon. They ended up all over the living room. We did help clean up. But my sister who hosted us just posted on the family website that she just found three more candy corn. Sorry Katie…
Here is my cute niece who just turned 1 after Thanksgiving:
Happy Birthday Abigail!!
Overall it was a great weekend of games, Youtube, pen wars, candy corn fights, puking, sleeping in, great food and great hospitality. Thanks for the good time Katie and Gordon!!

That four corners fee makes me mad! I remember walking there uphill both ways, barefoot in the snow and it was FREE!
Congrats on your writing.
I’ll buy your book AND I’ll even stand in line to get your autograph. I’m a devoted fan already!
Also, I just realized I am going to miss out on the delicious Amber Price holiday goody plate and I am so disappointed.
Good luck with the last 5,000 words.
I didn’t know they charged at the four corners either. That’s too bad because if you already have to leave the beaten path…they should be grateful for whoever actually makes it there.
Beige and wheat…totally different.
I hope you like your book. Can’t wait to hear about it.
How fun. Gosh, your kids are cute! I think you should seriously consider little Jasmin or Bell.
as much as I love your book, I miss you. Good to “see” you
Looks like a lot of fun. And the colorful state…who are we kidding?!?!?! I live here in Colorado and it’s not colorful. It’s brown, it’s yellow…heck, you’ll see some green in the summer. But that’s hardly colorful. LOL!
I paid the $3 to see the 4 corners area and found it to be sort of spiritual, maybe it was a feeling of being ripped off. Who knows. It is a large cement area with the approximate state lines painted on engravings that extended for about 20 yards in all directions. It would have been impressive if the lines extended for a couple of miles and perhaps worth a dollar.
What they say here is “Support your local Natives” no matter how much you over pay.
We will be in Utah between Dec 26 and 30th. We have talked about stopping by for an hour or two.
Your first paragraph made me bust out laughing!
