Happy Birthday Megan!!
My Megan just turned 5 this week. It seems crazy to me that she is that old, but at the same time it seems weird that she isn’t already that old. Not sure if that feeling is coherent to anyone else but me but there it is.
All Megan could talk about was how she wanted to have a party with only girls and play games and have cake. She’s had a party every year, but with just our family and grandparents, not with friends. Ashley’s had a ‘friend’ party every year since she was two. So it doesn’t seem an unreasonable request since Megan’s never had a friend party.
Well we made up for it by not having one or even two but THREE parties. We went to Las Vegas for Labor day and visited with Steve’s parents. We have four birthdays in the month of September in that side of the family so we had a ‘September Birthday’ Party. I will elaborate more on the ‘Vegas Trip’ post. We also had a party here with my mom and two of my sisters who live in the area.
But last night was the ‘Big Deal’ friend party. The one she’s been waiting her whole life for. (No really- her ENTIRE life). So we invited the four other girls in her primary (church) class. I asked Megan endlessly what kind of party she wanted to have. I could never get a straight answer. I was hoping for a theme of some sort- but never got it. So we had a ‘party’ party.
Friday started with Ashley asking Megan to help her with something and Megan informing her, ‘I’m the birthday girl, I don’t have to do anything today’. Seems like she’s got the right idea huh?
When the girls go there I had them color their very own treat bag (fancy I know)
We also made bracelets (you’re supposed to put clear nail polish on the knot so it doesn’t come undone- they’re drying in the picture).
We played Duck Duck Goose endlessly
Which was hilarious because all the kids didn’t quite ‘get’ it. So we had to teach them how to play.
We let them make their own pizzas for dinner (the lighting in our apartment is horrible- and I’m not a good photographer all this together = crappy pictures, sorry) It took a lot of convincing that every pizza needed sauce and cheese at least- but some of the girls still weren’t convinced.
Steve was the man of the hour. Seemed everything he said was hysterical and would cause cascading giggles from all the party girls.
They’re also at the age where they like to tell jokes- but don’t quite ‘get’ what makes a joke funny. So we heard a lot of knock knock jokes like the following:
knock knock
who’s there?
pizza
pizza who?
I don’t want pizza!
(roaring laughter)
Of course there was the best part for Megan- presents!!
When we were eating pizza they were discussing who’s present Megan would like best. One of the girls pipes up and says very matter-of-factly, ‘Megan will like all of our presents the same, well- except mine, she’ll like mine the best, but she’ll like the rest of yours too.’ Ahh, the humility of 5 year olds.
It also seemed like the whole night was a competition of who could talk the loudest over everyone else.
Last of all there was cake:
Wanna see that better?
Not my favorite cake ever. Also looking at these pictures I totally need a cake platter. I guess I have some that are a lot better but they’re all in storage.
Happy Birthday Megan!!

Just have to say, the cake is awesome. Are you going to be busy in December when it’s my daughter’s birthday?
Happy birthday to your cutie!
Oh my gosh that cake!
Knock, knock…PIZZA! Bwah! Little kids. My son and his friend say (like a robot) “I like pie” over and over as their hilarious greeting to each other. Ah funny cluleless kids.
Such a great party!
Where did you learn to make cakes?? You are awesome!
Happy Birthday, Megan! (Are you going to make a cake for yourself in a couple of weeks? That’s one b-day I DON’T make a cake for - mine.)
Happy Birthday to Megan!
Will she be going to school since it doesn’t start until October and she’s five now?
I thought the cake was cute. I really like the flowers and the curled confetti from fondant.
I totally need to learn how to do the fondant thing, or whatever it is.
Happy Birthday Megan! I can hardly believe it’s been 5 years!
It might not be your favourite, but it sure is mine! Wow…I am lovin’ that cake!
Love the cake! Too cute!
And we hear lots of knock knock jokes like that around here…geesh!
I think the cake is fabulous!
Gorgeous cake! And fun activities, too! I’ve got a daughter turning 5 in a few more days, so I’m taking notes. Making bracelets sounds like something right up her alley.
LOL My 4-1/2 yr old tells jokes like that too. GOofy children.
I LOVE THAT CAKE! Will you come here in April and make my daughter’s? It’s nice here in April… well, towards the end of april anyways - which is perfect cuz that’s when her bday is!
Beautiful cake and happy birthday to Megan!
P.S. (yes, I used Americolor).
