Happy Birthday to Jessica!

In blogger tradition I’m going to honor my sister with her own post for her birthday. Since she’s turning 23 she’s getting a 23 point list.

Problem is that I don’t have too many pictures of Jessica that aren’t in storage. If I did I could pull out some great ones- so lucky for her that all I have are some old family pictures and pictures from our vacation this summer. This means you not only get to see her in all her childhood glory- but me as well.

The girl under the arrow is Jessica.

1.She’s the sixth kid in nine. I’m #2. This means that I babysat her a lot. I also bossed her around a lot. Sorry Jess.

2. Jessica ran track as a High Schooler. Pretty sure she still runs. Actually- pretty sure she’s currently training for a marathon.
3. Jessica also doesn’t eat sugar. Like ever. For her wedding she didn’t even have a cake since she didn’t want to eat it.

(this is one of my favorite family pictures- even though I’m totally pregnant with Ashley in it)

4. She’s the first girl in our family to graduate from college. Heck- the only girl.

5. She went to Utah State University and majored in Math Education.

6. She was a mother’s helper for several years in High School.

7. She’s married to Luke.

8. Jessica is super helpful. When we moved into our second house in Las Vegas I was a bit overwhelmed. Cori was 3 1/2 months old and still pretty colicky. Megan was barely three and Annika was only 1 1/2. She called and asked if she and Luke could come and stay and help me unpack. Pretty sure I wouldn’t have ever unpacked had they not come and worked hard unpacking and putting up blinds all day- and then babysat kids so Steve and I could go furniture shopping and rug shopping without them every evening. She’s a lifesaver.

9. Speaking of being helpful- she’s watching my twin nieces all summer while my other sister is doing an internship in Boston.

10. She’s a math teacher in Boston. Well- she’s currently looking for a job.

11. Jessica was 11 when I moved out. I don’t feel like I really knew her when I left. But I’m feeling like we’re getting to know each other better as we get older.

12. Jessica is probably the sister I line up the most with politically- at least from our sibling discussion while on vacation.

13. She’s always had long hair. I can’t imagine what she’ll look like when she starts having kids and cuts it off.
14. Jessica is the most competent person I know. She has been ever since I can remember. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer she was in High School. I came up to ‘help out’ with my younger sisters and help keep up the house while my mom was at the hospital with my dad. I probably could have stayed home. Jessica was the queen of getting everyone to do what they needed to do and keeping things running.

15. I met up with Jessica when I was in Utah once. Well- we were supposed to meet up for lunch but her car ended up breaking down in Bountiful. I think of that every time I go to Costco- mostly because it’s right where it happened. I ended up driving her back to Logan and visiting for a day.
16. Jessica currently lives in Boston.
17. I really want her to move to Utah.

18. Jessica was married in the Logan Utah Temple.
19. She was 30 minutes late to her reception. We didn’t tease her endlessly about it….
20. She prefers eating in to eating out

21. She doesn’t spend much time online
22. I can’t comprehend that.

23. She’s 23 today!! Happy birthday Jess! I hope it was fabulous!!

If you know Jessica add your memories of her!

  1. Awww…those are some awesome pictures, actually. What a sweet tribute!

  2. Very nice. I am thinking of getting involved in a “puppy train” that drives dogs to New England so I can get my gas paid for and maybe visit Jessica. The only problem is how much I hate dogs.

  3. Fun to get to know Jessica! Happy Birthday.

  4. What a great tribute. I’m also getting to know my sisters now that we’re “grown-ups.” I’m absolutely loving it and realizing that I grew up with some pretty cool people and never knew it (since they were so much younger).

Your #22 (I think) cracked me up. “I can’t comprehend that.”

  5. Amber, that was so nice! You have pictures of me that I don’t even have! Thanks for all of the memories. It’s good to know what other people remember about you.

  6. You sound like you really know and get your sister. I love that. That’s how sisters should be, in my book. Happy Birthday Jessica!

  7. Hey sweet! Ya know, your sister and I share many things in common, not just the name. Except for the running thing…and the no sugar…and the still being in her 20s…and the - nevermind, we’re nothing alike.

  8. Jkween you rock Amber’s world.
