So we’ve been working hard to make sure that our new dentists kids are able to afford college. Every member of our family that is old enough to see the dentist has seen the dentist this month. Here is the damage:
Steve= first crown ever (I’ve had four this year) 600ish dollars
Me= 450ish dollars worth of fillings- but no root canals or crowns so YAY!
Megan= was super cooperative, super happy and super chatty. They loved her.
Annika= Also super cooperative, super happy but would only nod in response to questions. That was until the hygienist asked if she could sing. She then sang her a song,
‘I love the dentist it is so fun.
I love the dentist and I want a princess toothbrush
I love the dentist, I love the dentist, I love the dentist
and I love stickers’
She would not however sing it again for the dentist.
Ashely= she needed a space maintainer on the bottom. She had it put in today. I’ve been giving her Tylenol and she had chicken noodle soup for both lunch and dinner. She’s wined about her mouth feeling weird all day. I’m not sure how long she’s going to complain about it. Also how long is it normal to be sore? I fed her a smoothie tonight before bed since she was hungry. She’s also my kid most likely to need braces. So in 4-5 years we get to do this on a regular basis.
Fun huh?

Dentists are no fun, well, the dentist is usually nice and I’m sure fun, but his work, not so much.
Glad you didn’t need crowns though
Yikes! I’m sure this will be my same post in a few more years. My kid is 2.5 and it was only today that I finally got her her very own toothbrush and kids’ toothpaste so she could brush her teeth. Funny how it took me two years to remember that the darn things could rot out of her skull and she’d be stuck with Child Protective Services.
So did Annika get a Princess toothbrush?
Argh! The dentist, and ortho now at our house. I will insist our kids check dental records before they marry because my kids have been doomed with bad genes from both me and my husband. You lucked out if you have only one most likely to need braces.
I went to the dentist yesterday too. What is up with them sawing your gums as they try to floss? Did it require such back and forth?
Maybe I’ll have my kids marry the dentist’s. Because then at least I’ll be getting some kind of return on the funds I’m putting into the college account.
My little sister might go into dentistry. I have my fingers crossed.
Does not sound fun. Wish we had a dentist in the family!
So sorry her mouth is still sore! Sore babies are the hardest, especially when you’ve done all you can.
My 4yo DD had her first dentist appointment a little while ago. The dentist said she was better in the chair than his kids!
Wow, that’s a lot of work (and money)! Which reminds me I need to make appts for us, too.
Thought I’d pop in to say that Brillig was here.
It was SO much fun meeting you tonight. Hope to see you tomorrow!
